Spiritual Foundation

Legacy of Sree Narayana Guru

His pioneering work laid the foundation for far-reaching and positive changes in the social, cultural, economic, and educational spheres of Kerala.

A profound scholar of Sanskrit, Malayalam, and Tamil, he made valuable contributions to the great Indian philosophical tradition of Advaita Vedanta. As the driving force behind a social reform movement that sought to eliminate caste differences and untouchability, Guru paved the way for progressive, high-human-development society.

The Quest for Ultimate Wisdom

Gurudevan performed ‘tapas’ and meditation for about 5 years in the ‘Pillathadam’ cave atop Maruthwamala. Located in Kanniyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, it is the sacred place where he attained enlightenment at the age of 30.

He was a great scholar, philanthropist, healer, and social reformer. He started evening schools so working people could study, and authored 63 books which are currently being translated into 24 regional languages by the Sahitya Akademi of India.

Guiding Principles

Tenets of Enlightenment

01

Recognize that there is only one caste, one religion, and one God for all humanity.

02

Regardless of one's religion, the ultimate goal is to become a better human being.

03

Transcend social divisions by never asking about, speaking of, or thinking of caste.

04

Ensure that actions performed for your own benefit also serve the greater good of others.

05

Find true happiness in loving others, for your happiness and theirs are deeply intertwined.

06

Shun the poison of liquor completely: do not produce it, consume it, or sell it to others.

07

Despite superficial differences in creed or dress, all belong to one creation and can unite.

08

Empower yourself and achieve true liberation through the pursuit of education and knowledge.

09

Build collective strength and resilience by organizing and standing together in unity.

10

Attain lasting prosperity and economic independence through dedicated industry and hard work.
